CHARACTERS
*the roles of Daphnne, Ralph, Brooklyn, Ares, Dean, Thalia, Dionysus require kissing
Daphne Rain (Female, 20s–30s) A passionate, bookish young Classics professor at a liberal arts university. Intelligent, work-obsessed, somewhat isolated and hesitant socially, but with a fiercely independent spirit and hidden adventurous side. She discovers (and then loses) a valuable ancient manuscript, leading her to desperately call on the ancient Greek gods. Strong comedic timing is a must.
*Implied, but not actual, nudity above the waist suggested.
Ralph Sargent (Male, 20s–30s) A good-looking, energetic, recently hired Classics professor and rising star in Hellenistic studies. Charismatic, work-driven, enthusiastic, and professorial in demeanor. He's Daphne's colleague (and often romantic interest), obsessed with a "lost" Euripides play that could make their careers.
Dionysus (Male, 20s+) The Greek god of wine, revelry, fertility, and misrule/comedy. Boisterous, anarchic, loveable, larger-than-life, with a hearty appetite for partying, indulgence, and all things ecstatic/sexual. Thrilled by modern college life excesses; a screwball deity who causes chaos with his powers and personality. Big energy and comedic flair are a must.
Thalia (Female, 20s+) The ancient Greek Muse of comedy and idyllic poetry, Dionysus's partner-in-crime from Mount Olympus. Confident, positive, happy-go-lucky, self-assured (sometimes to the point of not being the sharpest), charming, and optimistic. She crushes hard and fast on attractive mortal men, adding to the comedic mayhem.
Dean Trickett (Female, 40s–60s+) The larger-than-life, lusty, "force of nature" Dean of the Classics Department, with hearty gusto, a full-throated laugh, and unstoppable passion for preserving Classics. Awkward, bold, and willing to do whatever it takes.
Brooklyn De Wolfe (Zoe) (Female, 20s–40s) A glamorous, charming, alluring former student turned world-class movie star and college alum. Stylish, smooth-talking, attractive (with a smile that "makes you believe in God"), and adept at getting what she wants. Doubles with Zoe (Aristide's wife).
Aristide / Aleksi / Ares (Male, 30s–40s+) Aristide: A jovial Greek local/salesman , friendly, omniscient narrator-like figure who knows everyone; Greek accent. Aleksi: Lovable university custodian/janitor, Russian émigré with accent, deep appreciation for ancient culture, dreams of being a Classics professor. Ares: The Greek God of War—loud, intimidating, brutish, aggressive, demanding, and physically imposing; quick to anger and satisfy desires.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Daphne and Ralph are young classics professors who have just made a discovery that's sure to turn them into academic superstars. But something goes disastrously wrong, and Daphne cries out in a panic, "Save me, gods of ancient Greece!"…and the gods actually appear! The Ivy League will never be the same as a pair of screwball deities encounter the carnal complexity of college coeds, campus capers, and conspicuous consumption. A riotous comedy where ancient gods bring divine chaos to modern life!
