Play Synopsis:

A dark comedy about a dysfunctional family coming together to celebrate Mother’s Day and take their childhood dog for a final walk. Through a series of flashbacks, family connections are explored. Now adults, the siblings are forced to navigate their fractured relationships.

 

Auditions will be February 17, 2024 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. Callbacks will be held on February 24, 2024 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.

 

Auditions will be at Mainstage222 at 222 E Irving Blvd, Irving, TX 75060

 

Auditions will consist of a cold reading from the script. Please bring a resume and headshot.

Performances will be March 28, 29, and 30th at 7:30PM and March 30 at 2:00PM.

 

Actors will receive comp tickets for their participation in this production.

 

Roles Available:

Jedidiah Johnson Jr./3J: Special needs (this is never clearly defined) oldest of four children, Dog is his best friend, uses simple words with family, speaks more eloquently and comfortably with Dog. In 30’s.

 

Mary Shelley Johnson: Second of the four children, left home to go to college after high school despite parental disapproval. Is religious. Tries to be a good daughter, but this conflicts with ideas learned since leaving family home. In 30’s.

 

Collin Johnson: Single male in 30’s. Youngest of the four children. Left home to be musician and escape parental expectations. Has kept in touch with 3J and DOG via weekly phone calls.

 

Bunny Johnson: Steven’s wife. Is a feminist, teaching her children modern ideas. Late 20’s or early 30’s.

 

Onyx Johnson: Bunny’s teenage son, Steven’s stepson. Through ONYX and SKYE, the differences between STEVEN’s upbringing and BUNNY’s ideals are seen.

 

Skye Johnson: Bunny’s teenage daughter, Steven’s stepdaughter. Through SKYE and ONYX, the differences between STEVEN’s upbringing and BUNNY’s ideals are seen.

 

Pack of dogs: Guide 3J and DOG off stage at the end of ACT 3. Minimum of four.

 

The following roles are precast: JJ, Prudence, Steven, Dog
